About FileMaker, Inc. FileMaker is the leader in easy-to-use database software. FmPro Migrator 4.0 will be demonstrated at the .com Solutions Inc.
booth during FileMaker DevCon 2007 in Orlando, August 5 - 9, 2007.
FmPro Migrator 4.0 includes a redesigned step-by-step graphical
interface to simplify database migrations. FileMaker 9 customers
who intend to utilize the new External SQL Data Sources feature can
easily and accurately transfer their data from FileMaker 9 to
MySQL, SQL Server or Oracle database servers. Once the data has
been transferred to an external database server, the data can then
be used within FileMaker 9 as an External Data Source.
FmPro Migrator automatically generates the table creation SQL code
for the destination database, and properly sizes the data columns
according to the actual data contained within each FileMaker field.
FmPro Migrator then performs an ODBC data transfer between the
databases which prevents issues with embedded TAB/RETURN or foreign
characters. FileMaker repeating fields data is transferred as
individual records to a related table in the SQL database.
FmPro Migrator 4.0 also includes support for converting Access
2007 database files to FileMaker 9. Using FmPro Migrator, Access
97/2000/2003/2007 databases can be migrated to FileMaker 9 in order
to take advantage of FileMaker's legendary ease of use and
increased data management capacity. Migrated Access databases can
now grow to the maximum 8TB file size offered by FileMaker 9 and
can be run on MacOS X and Windows.
New FmPro Migrator Features:
● Graphical Migration Process -
Previous versions of FmPro Migrator implemented a script-based
approach to the database migration process. Though Perl and SQL
scripts can still be generated by FmPro Migrator, the new default
operating mode uses a graphical process. A new Migration Process
window is displayed with buttons for each step in the process.
Buttons are available for Get Fieldsize, Create Table, Transfer
Data and Export Images. Clicking each button initiates a connection
to the source or destination database and performs the requested
task. Detail windows are available to allow for manually specifying
table/field parameters, database connection parameters or for
manually editing the table creation SQL code.
● Manage Multi-File Migration
Projects - Migration parameters for each FileMaker table or file
are stored within an embedded SQLite database which is written to
the output directory. Dozens of files can be easily managed in a
list view, with migration details and status info automatically
displayed upon clicking the source filename in the list. As each
source file is clicked in the list, only the appropriate migration
buttons are displayed. For instance, the optional Image Export
button is only displayed if the source database file includes
container fields. And the repeating fields migration buttons are
only visible if the source database file contains repeating fields.
● Context-Sensitive Online Help -
Each individual database listed in the Migration Process window can
represent a different type of database migration. For instance,
line #1 might represent a FileMaker to MySQL migration, line #2
might represent a FileMaker to SQL Server migration etc. Therefore
the FmPro Migrator online help instructions field is instantly
updated according to the currently selected source and destination
databases and the current platform being used (MacOS X or Windows).
● Restartable Migration Process -
Each of the database migration parameters are written into the
SQLite database file within the output directory. As migration
steps are completed, the resulting data and Pass/Fail status
results from each migration step are also updated within this file.
A migration project can easily be restarted by launching FmPro
Migrator, selecting the output directory then selecting the
"Continue Migration..." menu selection. New
source database files can then be added/removed or migration step
processing can be continued for any individual file.
The single-user licensing ($100) for FmPro Migrator now includes a
copy of FmPro Migrator 4.0 for both Mac OS X (Universal Binary) and
Windows platforms.
