Troi Automatisering releases Troi File Plug-in 4.0 for FileMaker Pro 8.5

New plug-in for FileMaker Pro 8.5 is Vista and Mac OS X native and lets you manage your media, files and folders directly from your databases.

June 5th, 2007, Alphen aan den Rijn, The Netherlands --Troi Automatisering today announced the availability of Troi File Plug-in 4.0 for FileMaker Pro 8.5.

Windows Vista and Mac OS X compatible

Troi File Plug-in 4.0 runs natively with FileMaker Pro 8.5 and FileMaker Advanced 8.5, but also with FileMaker Pro 7 and FileMaker Pro 8.

It is compatible with Windows Vista and is a Universal Plug-in on Mac OS X. The 4.0 release adds several new functions and features, like execute shell, folder copying/moving, ASCII conversion, getting image descriptions and more.

What is Troi File Plug-in?

Troi File Plug-in is a very powerful tool for getting access to information outside the FileMaker Pro database. Any files or folders stored on the computer can be accessed through the functions of the plug-in. All from within FileMaker Pro you can:

  • get data from files that are on the disk of the computer into FileMaker Pro
  • create files anywhere on the hard disk and put data from FileMaker fields into them
  • manipulate files and folders on the disk: this includes creating, deleting, copying, moving and modifying files and folders
  • query detailed information of files: the size on disk, creation and modification dates and much more
  • launch files with their appropriate application directly from FileMaker Pro
  • manage your media, and read and write IPTC metadata to JPEG images!

What is new?

Troi File Plug-in 4.0 adds 4 new functions making a total of 58 powerful functions available. It also improves on several functions, adding exciting new possibilities:

  • Copy and move complete folders (including subfolders) with the new functions: TrFile_CopyFolder and TrFile_MoveFolder.
  • New TrFile_ExecuteShell function lets you execute commands in the operating system shell, on Mac the UNIX Bourne shell and on Windows the Windows CMD shell.
  • Easier Media Management: retrieve extensive image ànd movie data like width, height, depth and resolution, etc.
  • New example file called ManageMedia.fp7. This is a powerful Media Manager for images ànd movies. It shows how to import one or multiple images and retrieves a wealth of meta data like size, IPTC meta data (amongst others caption, keywords, copyright) and EXIF meta data like aperture, shutter speed, the time a photo was taken etc.
  • The new TrFile_AsciiValueToText function allows you to enter all special or invisible ASCII characters, like Carriage Return, Line Feed or Vertical Tab.
  • Improved TrFile_ListFolder: it can now handle folders containing much more than 32000 items!
  • New switch "-Encoding=BytesOnly" to both the TrFile_SetContents and the TrFile_AppendContents function. This will encode all characters in the text that have Unicode value of 0 to 255.
  • Improved the TrFile_CreateThumbnail function. You can now specify a higher quality bit depth.
  • Some bug fixes and improvements to several example files and the user guide.

Suggested Uses

Troi File Plug-in allows you to:

  • Use FileMaker as a photo gallery or movie archive
  • Manage complete projects, including documents, images, and the metadata like EXIF and IPTC
  • Batch import any file, anywhere
  • Let the user select a folder and process the contents of this folder
  • Create a web site by exporting multiple HTML files
  • Update solutions, by moving database files into place
  • Read and write custom formatted files, for example from legacy systems

Troi File Plug-in 4.0 works with FileMaker Pro 7, 8 and 8.5. The plug-in can also be used with runtimes from FileMaker Developer 7, FileMaker Advanced 8 or FileMaker Advanced 8.5. The plug-in is available for Mac OS X 10.4.5 or higher, Windows XP (Service Pack 2) and Windows Vista.
