UIC Entrepreneurship Hall of Fame Inducts Leading FileMaker Developer Bob Bowers
"These winners are true pioneers," said Eric A. Gislason, Interim Chancellor of the University of Illinois at Chicago. "They have had a profound impact on the business community." UIC’s Institute for Entrepreneurial Studies (IES), now commemorating its 25th anniversary, established the Hall of Fame in 1985.
The Executive Director of IES, Gerry Hills, said they chose to honor Bowers because, "He has a remarkable track record of entrepreneurial excellence - from all vantage points, including highly satisfied clients, their productive and satisfied people, and the successful pursuit of opportunity based on the latest knowledge that he has himself generated."
After graduating summa cum laude in Music and English at Wabash College, Bowers earned a masters in musicology from the University of Chicago. He is now widely known for his expertise in the field of software development. He is a columnist and technical editor for FileMaker Advisor magazine, a recipient of the FileMaker Fellowship Award, and has co-authored six books on database development.
Bowers co-founded Soliant Consulting in 2004 with partners Scott Love and Steve Lane. The company, with nearly 50 employees, creates data applications that support business process improvement in organizations around the country. They focus on rapid application development tools, specializing in Adobe® Flex, FileMaker® Pro, PHP, and SQL. As a full-service consulting firm, they define solutions, design and architect rich applications, and manage the entire software development lifecycle.
Their clients include Apple, CDW, Genentech, and major education customers such as the State of Nebraska and the University of Chicago. They work with large and small organizations in both the private and public sectors.
