What’s New?

Ten Great Reasons to Upgrade Now!

1. On your mark, get set, connect. Connect directly to the information you need every time you launch FileMaker Pro 9 with the new FileMaker Quick Start Screen.

2. At-a-glance indicators. Connect to changes in your FileMaker Pro 9 data by visually formatting fields and objects based on parameters that you decide! New Conditional Formatting can be applied to fields, FileMaker Web Viewer objects, text objects, or text based buttons.

3. Database sharing made even easier. In just a few minutes, you can be sharing your database with others. Just click on Send Link and FileMaker Pro will create an email with a simple hyperlink that when clicked on, will open your database.

4. Effortless reporting. Now, with the new Append to PDF feature, you can combine multiple reports into one PDF and email the PDF to the recipients you specify, connecting them to the latest information.

5. One size fits all. With the new Auto-Resize feature, layout objects that you choose will resize or move in order to maintain a constant distance to the sides of the window or container that they have been anchored to.

Better Layout Navigation with
Script Parameters

By Stuart Gripman
Adding a navigation bar to the top or left-hand side of the layouts is just the thing to help less savvy users switch among layouts in your database.

Databases accumulate layouts. It's just a fact of life. The longer you have a database, the more layouts you're going to make over time. As an Advisor Basics of FileMaker Pro reader, you're probably comfortable switching among the layouts in your database. You know to go to the layout list in the status area and pick the one you want. When sharing a database with other, less savvy users, those users often appreciate a simpler approach. Adding a navigation bar to the top or left-hand side of the layouts is just the thing to help them out (and show off your FileMaker Pro smarts).
