FileMaker Press Release
New Campus Productivity Kit From FileMaker Helps Students Manage People, Projects and Campus Life—The Easy Way!
Free downloadable “smart tool” for Mac and Windows helps students easily manage friends and faculty, lecture and research notes, projects and assignments, events and To-Dos
SANTA CLARA, CA – August 29, 2006 – The new
FileMaker Campus Productivity Kit (downloadable now at
www.filemaker.com/cpkpr)
has just made organizing college life a lot easier. An
all-in-one ready to use database solution, the Campus Productivity
Kit for Mac and Windows PCs, empowers students to easily manage
contacts; organize searchable research and lecture notes; track all
kinds of assignments and projects; manage and coordinate events and
all those extra To-Dos that go along with being a college student.
“Entering college is part of a major life transition as
students march toward adulthood, so it’s imperative that
we learn life skills that are required for success in the working
world,” said Farré Nixon, Texarkana,
Texas, an incoming freshman at Massachusetts Institute of
Technology. “Skills such as time management,
organization, team work and networking are all supported by the
FileMaker Campus Productivity Kit. So, while iPods and iTunes are
among the hot topics in college today, the Campus Productivity Kit
is a smart tool for every student’s computer.”
Based on the new FileMaker Pro 8.5—Web Data on Demand
The FileMaker Campus Productivity Kit includes the new FileMaker
Pro 8.5 Web Viewer in the Lecture Notes module that brings back
related information from Wikipedia for the selected topic
automatically - without having to go to a separate Internet
browser.
Last month, FileMaker released FileMaker Pro 8.5, the first
desktop database to provide built-in integration with live Web data
(
http://www.filemaker.com/fmp85pr
).
As easy as it is to bookmark a Web page, a live web page can now be
added to a record in a database using the new Web Viewer Control in
FileMaker Pro 8.5. Data stored in FileMaker Pro 8,5, such
as a customer’s address or product name, will drive the
URL in the Web Viewer. Set it up once and there will be a live Web
link for every record in the database. Possibilities include street
maps based on a customer address field, shipping status based on a
shipment tracking number and stock performance charts based on a
stock symbol.
With more than 11 million units distributed worldwide, FileMaker
Pro is used in each of the top 50 U.S. undergraduate colleges
including MIT, Stanford University, Cornell University, Syracuse
University, Rutgers University, Wheaton College, Medical College of
Ohio, UCLA and more. FileMaker Pro has received several key
industry awards, including “Product of the
Year” awards from both Macworld Magazine and PC Magazine.
