FileMaker Pro 8.5 and FileMaker Pro 8.5 Advanced Now Available in Czech, Polish and Extended English
World renowned relational database now available for fast-growing Central and Eastern European markets
GRENOBLE, FRANCE. – January 10, 2007
–FileMaker Pro 8.5 and FileMaker Pro 8.5 Advanced, are
now available in Czech, Polish and Extended English versions, it
was jointly announced by FileMaker and WinSoft (

) today.
Text import and export options
— The user can
choose to import or export text files in a non-roman format,
according to his settings.
Spelling option
— Three more languages, Czech,
Slovak and Polish, as well as the Unicode support of the User
dictionary, are included in the spelling option on Windows and
Macintosh.
Sorting / Indexing options
— Five more languages,
Estonian, Lithuanian, Latvian, Serbian, Bulgarian, are included in
the sorting and indexing options on Windows and Macintosh.
Additional improvements
— Some improvements have
been included for the support of Central and Eastern European
languages, such as the support of Baltic language on Windows,
improved support of non-roman characters in popup controls on
Macintosh, and the possibility to attach files with non-roman name
to emails.

The new localized versions are the result of an agreement between
FileMaker and WinSoft for the adaptation, localization, and
commercialization of FileMaker product line for the Central and
Eastern European and Middle Eastern markets. FileMaker
Pro is also available in English, French, German, Italian,
Japanese, Spanish, Dutch, and Chinese (Traditional and Simplified).

In addition to the new features in FileMaker Pro 8.5 (see details
below), specific new features exclusively designed for the Czech,
Polish and Extended English localized versions include:
User Interface
— For Czech and Polish versions,
the user interface of FileMaker Pro and Instant Web Publishing, as
well as the templates, are available in Czech and Polish (Extended
English version interface is in English).
Migration from previous FileMaker versions
— A
specific conversion encoding option allows users of previous
FileMaker versions (prior to version 7) to migrate their databases
with ease and confidence. Users can now take advantage of all the
new and improved features in FileMaker Pro 8.5, with no risk of
text incorrectly converted to Unicode.
“Using this valuable built-in conversion
option users can now correctly convert pre-FileMaker Pro 7
databases created on Macs or PCs directly into FileMaker Pro
8.5,” said Pantelis Assimakopoulos, Rainbow SA, an Apple
Computer, Inc. distributor located in Greece), who also
participated in beta testing for the new localized versions.
“FileMaker Pro 8.5 is now very attractive for
Greek users,” he added.
FileMaker Pro 8.5 also includes the support of
“cocoAspell” tool (Mac OS X interface for
Aspell) from Mac OS 10.4.x for Czech, Slovak, Hungarian, Polish,
Romanian, Slovenian, Croatian, Turkish, Estonian, Lithuanian,
Latvian, Serbian, Bulgarian, Ukrainian and Greek.
These options have been improved for Czech, Slovak, Romanian,
Slovenian and Ukrainian. For example, in Czech,
"Ch” is now recognized as a letter and is sorted
before the letter “H"; in Romanian, the letter
“a” with circumflex accent is included; in
Slovenian, the letters “l” with stroke,
“d” with stroke and “z”
with dot is added; in Ukrainian, the “Ghe” with
upturn is correctly displayed.
New features introduced in FileMaker Pro 8.5 include:
FileMaker Web Viewer Control
— This new layout
object allows users to easily connect databases with critical,
up-to-date Web data. Users can view virtually any type of
content—including HTML, Java, Flash, etc-- in the Web
Viewer that can be viewed in a Web.
Universal Application
– FileMaker Pro 8.5 is a
Universal application, with native support for next generation
Intel-based Macs delivering from up to 91% faster performance for
FileMaker Pro 8.5 compared to running on Mac Power.
New Object Functions and Scripts
— Developers will
be more productive in creating intuitive solutions with new
functions, such as Layout Object Names, Go to Object script steps,
Layout Object calculations, Set Web Viewer script step and List
function.

FileMaker Pro 8.5 and FileMaker Pro 8.5 Advanced in Czech, Polish
