Specifying formats for container fields
You can control how FileMaker Pro displays images and icons in container fields.
Container fields store and display pictures, QuickTime files, sounds, files of any type, and OLE objects. (For more information, see Working with data in container fields.) Container fields display these items differently:
Pictures and most QuickTime files display as images
Sounds display a sound icon
Files of any type display the file icon and filename
OLE objects display as either an image of each object or an icon
When you format a container field, you can set scaling options for images and alignment options for both images and icons. (Icons do not scale.) The formatting options you choose affect the display in FileMaker Pro only, and do not affect the original files that you may be referencing from disk.
To specify formats for container fields:
1. In Layout mode, select one or more container fields.
For more information, see Selecting objects.
2. Choose Format menu > Graphic.
3. In the Graphic Format dialog box, select the formats you want to use.
You see examples of the options you choose in the Sample area.
To Do this
Display each image at its unaltered size
From the first list, choose Crop (Crop image to fit frame). FileMaker Pro crops the image if it's too large to fit within the field boundaries.
Scale each image either always up, always down, or either up or down (depending on the data in the field) to fit within the field boundaries
From the first list, choose Reduce, Enlarge, or Reduce or Enlarge (Reduce, Enlarge, or Reduce or Enlarge image to fit frame).
Unless you also select Maintain original proportions, the image is distorted to fit the proportions of the field boundaries.
Set the horizontal and vertical alignment
For Alignment, choose horizontal and vertical alignments.
4. Click OK.
