What are container fields?

Container fields in FileMaker Pro allow you to store any type of file in your database including photos, videos, music, documents and more. In FileMaker Pro 12, container fields have been re-engineered to improve database performance and make your solutions even easier to use.

Simply drag and drop documents, photos, music, and more into your container fields for fast, no-hassle upload. No need to click through menus to add files.

Powerful security

Secure your data and get powerful protection. Each remotely stored file can be individually encrypted with AES-128. Backups and thumbnails are also included in the encryption process for extra safety.

Faster performance

FileMaker Pro 12 increases the performance of your database by automatically generating and caching thumbnails instead of showing the entire image file in your database. Thumbnails render at an optimized file size—allowing you to flip through records faster—while still displaying the same as your original image. And, if you choose, thumbnails can easily be turned off.

More interactive

Stream movies and music instantly from your database just like you would from the web – no need wait for files to download (requires FileMaker Server 12). Even view and scroll through PDFs right inside your database.*

Store data remotely

Have the option to store your data externally with just a click of a button. By not embedding your data you keep your databases lean, making them faster and easier to access. It’s even easy to convert existing data already embedded in your database to be remotely stored. And if you’re using FileMaker Server, backups run faster and more efficiently.
