Founded by Kevin McAllister, formerly of the Loomis-Chaffee School
in Connecticut, inResonance specializes in strategic planning for
schools and non-profit organizations—helping people make the most
of the technological tools at their command. "We offer
organization-wide consulting, professional development and a line
of FileMaker Pro database solutions for school and non-profit use,"
says Susan Reid, inResonance's Director of Professional
Development.
Hands-on training is the centerpiece of the inResonance experience,
built around a variety of professional development opportunities.
inResonance University, held twice a year in Northampton,
Massachusetts, provides four days of intensive FileMaker Pro
training for their education and nonprofit clients. "We offer
different levels of FileMaker Pro training aimed at the specific
needs of the education and nonprofit sector so that our clients can
really get the skills and understanding they need in order to
better manage their data back at their site.”
Additionally, inResonance offers two, six-day professional
development programs at Walker Creek Ranch in northern California
each summer for educators. edVentures, as the program is called, is
composed of two different weeks—Curriculum Week and Leadership
Week. "Curriculum Week is designed for educators who want to gain
greater understanding of and skill in using appropriate technology
tools and methodologies in support of teaching and learning”,
explains Susan. Leadership Week, meanwhile, emphasizes personal
productivity skills, effective leadership, and administrative
skills training and is geared towards educators in leadership
positions within their organizations. "Both weeks are comprised of
hands-on skills training, project group work, presentations, and
lots of discussions. During the week we offer everything from
intensive FileMaker Pro instruction, to web skills training and web
design, and multimedia production,” explains Susan.
As the foundation for inResonance's own product line, FileMaker Pro
is a major element in most all of their training programs. Their
product line ranges from admissions to student records and grading
to college guidance to fund raising. "Usually there are a few
misconceptions about FileMaker Pro," notes Susan. "Some think it's
Mac only, some think it's not relational, or that it's only single
user. Once we clear up these misconceptions and demonstrate our
solutions it becomes apparent that FileMaker Pro is the most
effective database program for schools for any information they
need to manage. They don't have to settle for buying a product off
the shelf that does maybe 60 per cent of what they want it to
do."
Even the skeptics are quickly converted. "A lot of the people who
attend our programs are frustrated with off-the-shelf products that
just don't suit their needs," Susan continues. "But whether they're
experienced in any type of database or have never used a database
at all, they're very receptive to FileMaker Pro. They understand
that a solution can be created that is appropriate for their needs
and is customizable and robust at the same time."
So it is that the database neophytes of today are the confident
database specialists of tomorrow, improving operations at schools
and nonprofit organizations from coast-to-coast—thanks to the
