Japan Management Ltd. is a small personnel consulting firm, specializing in executive search, selection and the recruitment of local staff for Japanese businesses across the UK and Europe. FileMaker is used extensively in running the business.

Business Challenge

Japan Management is a highly specialized search company using a highly specialized, custom, in house developed FileMaker solution to track Japanese firms, clients, candidates, projects, invoicing and administration. Six consultants across three locations in two countries access the system, which is hosted on FileMaker Server.

Successful Solution

Sascha Kunze is the Senior Manager at Japan Management and he's delighted with the ease of upgrading to FileMaker Pro 10.

"I was up and running in less than 10 minutes," he says. "I went ahead to open my existing databases and all my layouts, scripts and reports were maintained as intended. These were created in some cases as early as FM 4 and have migrated well through FM6 to 8, 8.5, 9 and now 10."

Sascha is also pleased that the improved user interface is easy to use. "The new user interface is excellent," he grins. "After years of using the old version, switching over was much easier than I thought. It now feels just like any other recent application and it is very intuitive."

Like many developers Sascha is especially enthusiastic about the Script Triggers. "I believe that the Script Triggers are the most important addition to FileMaker in this version., this will make a lot of routine formatting, reporting and other processes a lot easier."

But that's not the only new addition that has Sascha smiling. "Mail via smtp through FileMaker directly is a god send," he says. "Together with the scripting triggers e-mail can now be sent location independent from specified accounts and this makes a huge difference to mobility of our consultants and our ability keep track of communication with our clients and candidates."
