OSR Incorporated

Indiana-based company uses FileMaker Pro to manage all aspects of the business, manufacturing fasteners, the nuts and bolts, for the automotive industry.
R. Scott Weber is the Production Manager at OSR Incorporated, a Japanese-owned automotive fastener company --they specialize in small fasteners, literally the nuts and bolts of the automotive industry.Business Challenge
A small company of just 23 full time employees, Scott wears many hats including that of Information Technology guru. When OSR first started operations, the original Japanese management decided to use only Microsoft Excel for all aspects of the operation. After three years and the return of many of the Japanese management to Japan, Americans began to fill their places and Scott found that while the spreadsheets he was using were very well thought out, none of the operational parts were linked. Everything was on a different spreadsheet and he had to create new sheets to link the data, which was very inefficient and time consumingSuccessful Solution
Scott had worked in Education in Japan during which time there he became familiar with FileMaker Pro. Now he is trying to create an easy to use database system to link all of the production, sales, and quality information together. "We want something with a short learning curve and easy access, " he says. "I believe FileMaker Pro 10 is perfect for us. "Scott is very pleased with FileMaker Pro 10. "I like the updated interface. It's a big step forward and probably the most important change to the software. It's easier for first time users to understand," he adds. "I always had a to take a lot of time to show new people how to use it I let some of my people try the new interface and they picked it up very quickly and the ease of use and powerful database functions make this a great product for business wanting to create custom applications without having a high learning curve."
"Next year we are starting a new customer resource database, in other words a fancy contact list," Scott continues. "I used FileMaker 10 to create a contact database that included a Google Map for finding our customers, a report to list customers by state and of course a mailing label layout. It was easy to do and took very little of my precious work time."
Customer Benefits
"Now we will have a database that has an easy to use interface for inputting data from our different sections. We need a customer and sales database, a production and inventory database, a material purchasing database, a quality control database, a manufacturing database for dies and machine maintenance and an interface that will allow us to combine the information into easily created reports. I have made some databases for quality reports and inventory management with an older version of FileMaker, but FileMaker Pro 10 looks to be the one we need to really make our work more effective and efficient.""I like the updated interface. It's a big step forward and probably the most important change to the software. It's easier for first time users to understand."
