Terry Precision Bicycles Keeps Rolling with FileMaker

The need for Terry Precision Bicycles to implement FileMaker Pro arose when the company decided to expand its sales channel from wholesale and venture into the mail order business. 'Business went through the roof,' explained Georgena Terry, CEO of Terry Precision Bicycles. 'The accounting tools we had been relying on simply lacked the functionality to keep-up with the growth our company was experiencing.' They needed an online order entry system that could handle their accounting needs and that also provided reporting tools for business analysis.

After looking at several accounting programs that didn't suit her needs, Georgena Terry found the solution that had the functionality their business required — FileMaker Pro. The only question she had was would she, with a mechanical engineering and finance background, be able to implement and customize the solution to suit her business needs.

Georgena found the answer in Biz Basics, a business and accounting program written in FileMaker Pro. Georgena even decided to take a course in scripting that taught her how to customize Biz Basics to even better suit her business needs. Terry has been extremely impressed with FileMaker Pro's ease-of-use and openness. 'To me this is the beauty of FileMaker — I have been able to customize Biz Basics to make it work better for us,' she explained. 'It is great to have such an open product and to have so many support resources available.'

Today every transaction at Terry Precision Bicycles is handled through FileMaker Pro. FileMaker handles credit card verification, tracks inventory, processes and documents every wholesale and retail transaction, and does all of the accounting for Terry Precision Bicycles. 'We would need twice as many employees to do the work we are doing with FileMaker,' added Georgena. 'They system is so fast and can handle so much information, it has really helped us manage and grow our business.' In May of 1999 alone, they shipped more than 6,000 orders.

Looking forward, Georgena plans to redo terrybicycles.com in FileMaker so all online orders will be automatically entered into the FileMaker Pro database. 'FileMaker has helped us grow into a $5 million dollar company. I can't wait to find out what it can do for a $10 million company!'
