Constructing a multimedia presentation around a client's image is
no simple task. Video footage must be carefully examined and
precisely chosen to fit exactly the image the client wishes to
present. High profile clients like NASA and the International Space
Station require massive libraries of video footage -- not just the
clips you see on the website or on the promotional videos, but vast
amounts of material that didn't make the final cut. All this
footage needs to be cataloged, managed, and made easily accessible.
For both client and producer, FileMaker Pro provides the solution.
'We took all the digital footage and crunched low resolution
versions,' explains Glen. 'This gave us about 2000 video clips to
catalog by time code, so we could easily locate them on the source
tapes.' For both eMotion and the client, the resulting database
offers ready access to the entire library of images -- and this, in
turn makes future updates of the project easy to manage. New
footage can be previewed and decisions can be made without having
to scan through miles of irrelevant video.
What worked for the International Space Station is now available to
all of eMotion's large-scale clients. Says Glen, 'We can use
existing media from an original project to save money in creating
additional new media for our clients. FileMaker Pro helps us make
this possible -- an affordable, streamlined tool.' Each database,
custom-built for each client, can contain from 500 to 2000
individual clips, all indexed and easily searched.
