The integration with Google Maps is fantastic especially for those in the real estate arena. We are using Google Maps to show the location of various real estate projects in each database. We have thousands of records and hundreds of databases in FileMaker, and they can be navigated by client, property type or location. It's a great way to provide a visual to data that is otherwise numerically oriented. It really makes our reports 'pop' and brings life to each project.
Newport Venture Capital has been using FileMaker Pro for several years. "We use FileMaker to track real estate projects, their tenants, operating results and cash flow projections," says Rich Harris, the company's managing principal. "It's also being used for contact management. That will expand now we can send e-mail via SMTP within FileMaker."

Harris says the company has three favorites among the new features: Dynamic Reports, sending e-mail via SMTP and the ability to easily import and export data from Microsoft Excel.
"We prepare tenant rent rolls, operating cost estimates and other economic projections that often change daily, and we are now able to easily recalculate totals and produce summaries on the fly," he says. "We can import our clients' information and then use the portions of that data that we need — it's a huge reduction in time." Harris adds that the ability to distribute multiple reports and files via email without leaving FileMaker Pro is a huge timesaver as well.
This updated version of FileMaker Pro is a great leap forward, and I would highly recommend it to current and new users of FileMaker Pro.
Harris says there are many other features that really boost productivity for Newport VC, including the new themes and templates, and many timesaving shortcuts.
