About two and a half years ago, Hardy joined Generon, a company that specializes in nitrogen generators. He introduced the company to FileMaker Pro software, offering an improvement over the company's previous management tools spread across Microsoft Access databases and Excel spreadsheets. After about six months of setting up FileMaker Pro to track materials for his vessel department, he began to transfer other company information into FileMaker Pro.
"Once the owner and general manager saw all the information we could track using FileMaker Pro, things really took off," says Hardy. "Before I knew it, we had all sorts of layouts and tables to track everything the company is doing. We have facilities in California and Texas, and we all use FileMaker Pro to stay in sync. Adds Hardy, "Another feature that we find very helpful in FileMaker Pro 11 is folders in the layout manager. Because we use quite a number of layouts, this feature makes it easier to go straight to a layout without having to scroll."
Reporting and gathering information is also easier with FileMaker Pro 11, according to Hardy. "FileMaker Pro 11 makes for great reporting and provides unlimited possibilities for gathering and finding information," says Hardy. "For instance, the new Quick Find is awesome. The ability to search all the fields across a database at the same time is a great idea." Says Hardy, "The new Inspector also makes it easier to format fields. You don't have to open and close different menus—everything you need is in one convenient place."
Concludes Hardy, "New FileMaker Pro 11 takes some great leaps in making data management easier, building on the ease–of–use that makes FileMaker Pro the great program it is. Each new version of FileMaker Pro since 1993 has offered a leap forward and an increase in usability. But FileMaker Pro 11 really stands out—I can't wait to put it to work at our company."
