To expand its franchise, the company is launching a new e-commerce merchandise division and using FileMaker Pro 11 to manage the necessary merchandise planning, sales reporting and purchase orders.

Successful Solution

Using a new application based on FileMaker Pro 11, Brian Kraus, Director of Merchandising and Planning for Alli, can create comprehensive sales forecasts based on historical sales data and break them down by product category, brand, color and size combinations to make buying more accurate and profitable.

Traditionally, Kraus managed merchandise planning through a combination of pre-built sales reporting tools, spreadsheets and manual calculations. He notes that his previous method was extremely time consuming, required a pre-existing sales tool and lent itself to errors due to reliance on hand calculations and the need to repeatedly cut and paste data to and from spreadsheets. With FileMaker Pro 11, however, those antiquated methods are a thing of the past.

"Because FileMaker Pro 11 is so collaborative, I can roll out this new solution to anyone in my department with all of the relationships and calculations already set," says Kraus. "The buyers in my department can focus on purchasing the best and most popular products rather than spending their time figuring out how to add and format data in multiple spreadsheets to create assortment plans and formulate merchandise and sales reports.
