Major TV News Organization Manage Projects with FileMaker

A major TV news operation uses FileMaker to support much of its infrastructure. Functions supported include ticketing, purchase requests and program management. Approximately 60 FileMaker databases support a variety of applications for more than 200 users.

Because of competitive advantage concerns, the customer prefers to not be named.

The 60 FileMaker databases require only one administrator. The customer states flatly that there have been no support costs. Upgrade of the 60 databases from a previous release took one day. Neither developers nor administrators require much training as they "pick up” FileMaker very fast. The customer describes FileMaker cost of ownership as "outstanding” compared to both low- and high-end data management alternatives.

This news organization praises FileMaker's "stability,” and notes its popularity among end-user departments. It values FileMaker's ability to build applications fast, and notes that its performance is surprisingly strong in larger-database applications. The customer cites a test in which it provided data access to 1.2 million records, each with 8-9 fields, and found that response time was well within the user tolerance limit of five seconds.
