Software description

This software updates version 8.0v1 and 8.0v1a of the FileMaker Server 8 Advanced Web Publishing Engine to version 8.0v3.

Important installation notes

If the Web Publishing Engine is installed on a separate machine from the Web Server Module and Administration Console, you must install this software on the machine that runs the Web Publishing Engine.

You do not need to remove the earlier version of FileMaker Web Publishing. If you run this updater on a computer that already contains a previous version, this updater will update it to version 8.0v3.

Installation instructions (Windows)

To ensure a smooth installation, disable virus detection software before applying the update, and re-enable it after you are finished.

Stop the Web Publishing Engine services

  1. In the Windows Services Console, select Services (Local).
  2. There are two FileMaker Publishing Engine services. Select each service, then choose Action menu > Stop. Choose to stop any other dependent services.
  3. Install the new software

  4. Double-click the FileMaker Web Publishing Engine updater.
  5. Read the license agreement. If you agree to the terms click “Next”, then proceed as directed.
  6. After the update has completed, you will see a message confirming the successful installation of the new version.
  7. Quit the updater when completed.
  8. Restart your computer to restart the FileMaker Web Publishing Engine.
  9. Log in to the Administration Console from a web browser and navigate to the Overview page. The new version string should now read 8.0.3.28.

Installation instructions (Mac OS X)

To ensure a smooth installation, disable virus detection software before applying the update, and re-enable it after you are finished.

The updater will search all connected volumes for software to update. This search can take several minutes, especially if your computer is connected to a large server volume. Disconnect from all servers and other shared disks before starting the update to avoid such slowdowns.

Stop the FileMaker Web Publishing Engine

  1. Run the Terminal application.
  2. On the Mac OS X command line, enter: sudo SystemStarter stop “FileMaker Web Publishing”
  3. Install the new software

  4. Double-click the FileMaker Web Publishing Engine updater.
  5. If the updater requests authentication, enter a user name and password for an administrator account.
  6. Read the license agreement. If you agree to the terms click “Accept”, then proceed as directed.
  7. After the update has completed, you will see a message confirming the successful installation of the new version.
  8. Quit the updater when completed.
  9. Restart your computer to restart the FileMaker Web Publishing Engine.
  10. Log in to the Administration Console from a web browser and navigate to the Overview page. The new version string should now read 8.0.3.28.

Version History

1. New in FileMaker Server Advanced 8.0v3

1.1. Finds on an unstored calculation field

1.1.1. Fixed a problem that caused the entire record set to be returned if a client performed a find on an unstored calculation field if an 8.0v1 Web Publishing Engine was connected to an 8.0v2 Server.

1.1.2 Fixed a problem that could cause a FileMaker host to quit if a client performed a find on an unstored calculation field using either the Get(PrivilegeSetName) or Get(ExtendedPrivileges) functions.

1.1.3 Fixed a problem that caused unstored calculation finds to always be performed at the Web Publishing Engine which negatively affected performance. These finds are now performed appropriately at the Server or the WPE, which improves the performance of these types of finds.

* Due to the large file size, the download may take longer than expected.
