FileMaker Server 18

What's included

FileMaker Server 18 is available only as an electronic download. It includes product software and a link to an electronic license certificate that contains a license key needed for installation. Product documentation is available online.

Languages supported: Worldwide English, French, Italian, German, Spanish, and Japanese.


FileMaker Server 18 supports the following clients:

  • FileMaker Pro 16
  • FileMaker Pro 18, 17, and 16 Advanced
  • FileMaker Go 18, 17, and 16
  • Apps created using iOS App SDK 18, 17, and 16
  • FileMaker WebDirect

The latest updates must be applied to the above clients before the clients connect to FileMaker Server 18. Some features may not be fully backwards compatible.

Note: macOS Sierra 10.12 is no longer supported. Please update your operating system before upgrading to FileMaker Server 18.

Hardware requirements

A dedicated computer is recommended for FileMaker Server.

Minimum Requirements
CPU: Dual Core
Hard Drive: 100 GB or more, dependent on file size, requires minimum of 50 GB of free space. Solid State Drive (SSD) recommended.
Operating system drive requirements

FileMaker Server uses the operating system drive to provide temporary storage for progressive downloading, uploading and downloading apps, log files, and cache storage used by components such as the Web Server.

To maintain an optimal operating environment, FileMaker Server requires 100 GB or more of available storage on the operating system drive even if apps are hosted on or backed up to another drive. The server administrator must monitor the operating system drive to make sure that enough storage is available.

User License

A user license allows clients — including FileMaker Pro Advanced, FileMaker Go, and FileMaker WebDirect — to connect to FileMaker Server. Users can be purchased through FileMaker Server Admin Console or on the FileMaker Store. Learn more about FileMaker User Licensing.

Technology Requirement
Java FileMaker Server no longer installs a Java Runtime Environment (JRE), needed for using Custom Web Publishing and FileMaker WebDirect. To use web-related services, you must install either OpenJDK or Oracle JRE. Learn more
PHP FileMaker Server 18 installs what you need to use Custom Web Publishing with PHP including the PHP engine, the FileMaker API for PHP, and documentation. Use the latest version of PHP that FileMaker, Inc. has certified.

Admin Console FileMaker Server Admin Console is accessed through a web browser from a machine that has network access to FileMaker Server 18. Supported web browsers include:

Security Supports AES-256 encryption of data at rest when the database files are encrypted by FileMaker's encryption functionality.

Sharing, reading from, and writing to AES-256 encrypted files is supported by all products in the FileMaker 18 Platform.
