FileMaker WebDirect Overview
Run custom solutions directly in a web browser
What is it?
FileMaker WebDirect, available in FileMaker Server 14, is innovative web technology that instantly runs FileMaker solutions directly in a web browser — no programming required.
What does it allow you to do?
FileMaker WebDirect provides your extended users with desktop-style interaction with your FileMaker solution through a web browser on a desktop or mobile tablet.
Web users don’t need to install additional software—anyone with compatible web browser software and access to the Internet or an intranet can connect to your FileMaker WebDirect solution to view, edit, sort, or search records.
How it works
FileMaker WebDirect runs in a web browser and uses these standard web technologies:
Supported browsers include Safari, Chrome and Internet Explorer on the desktop, and Safari and Chrome on a mobile browser.
Accessing databases with FileMaker WebDirect
When you publish databases on the Internet or an intranet, the host computer must be running FileMaker Server, and the databases you want to share must be open. By default, FileMaker Server supports one FileMaker WebDirect or one FileMaker Go connection at a time. To share information with multiple simultaneous web users, you can purchase additional concurrent connections at the FileMaker Store. While there are no set limits, FileMaker WebDirect has been tested to support up to 100 concurrent connections.
Follow these steps to make your solution accessible in a web browser:
- Create a solution tuned for a web browser using FileMaker Pro or use one of the 16 web layouts included in the FileMaker Pro 14 Starter Solutions.
- Under the FileMaker Pro 14 File menu, enable FileMaker WebDirect access to a solution.
- Upload the solution to FileMaker Server 14.
- Access your solution from a web browser using a concurrent connection in FileMaker Server.
